Priscilla Salazar Martinez, 53

SAN LUIS — Priscilla Salazar Martinez, 53, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on April 16,
2009. She was born in Alamosa, Colo. Aug., 23, 1955 to Fred and Mary Salazar. Priscilla met and married the love of her life
Fernando Martinez and together they raised their four children, Avelina, Marcelo, Carlos and Rafael in San Luis, Colo. They
instilled in them the love of familia, la cultura, the preservation of our land and water. Priscilla was a remarkable woman who
spent all of her adult life working on the health challenges of her community and was known for her work related to the social
justice issues of her time. She dedicated her life to fighting for what she believed in. She was one of the founders of KRZA
community radio and served as its first president. She was the voice for many in our community as she voiced her concerns
about the preservation of our acequia culture and the loss of our agricultural land. She helped found the Sembrando Semillas
Youth Program promoting single row crop farming and educating our youth in carrying on these traditions. She worked
tirelessly on these efforts and her legacy will live in those who she has touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mary Salazar; In laws Amadeo and Pepita Martinez; brother Pete
Salazar; brother in law Lorenzo Martinez; nephews Tomas, Luis and Julian; her niece, Little Pepita; grandparents Pete and
Julianita Trujillo and Sabino and Emeliana Salazar.

She is survived by her husband of 32 and one-half years Fernando Martinez; children Marcelo and Nancy, Carlos, Rafael,
Avelina and Ricardo Martinez; grandchildren Amelia and Emilio; sister Shirley (Dennis ) Garcia; brothers James (Kathy), Greg
(Geo), Steve( Patti) and Freddie; sisters in law Bernadette, Yolanda and Roberta as well as by numerous nieces and
nephews.
A Rosary and viewing was held on April 19, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Sangre de Cristo Parish, San Luis. Mass of the Christian Burial
was held on Mon., April 20, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the church.
