My thoughts are still with you

Dear Martinez family,
I want to start by saying that I am so sorry for your loss.  How
proud you must be of this man who fought for us everyday.
You don't know me and neither did your son Glen.  My name is
Dayle and I worked at Frontier Airlines in Colorado Springs
during the time your son came home.  Working at the airport in
a military town, as well as being a native, you are exposed to
troops coming and going on a continual basis.  However, I will
never, ever forget the story of your son.

It was pouring one afternoon as I was standing on the ramp
with an umbrella (we ground board) awaiting the arrival of one
of our flights.  A young man got off with a huge collage of
pictures.  Immediately, I invited him to come stand under the
umbrella with me because I didn't want the pictures to get wet
while he waited for his bags.  I commented on them and the
story began about Glen.  Tears came to my eyes, as did his.  If
my memory serves me correctly (and trust me, it may not.) his
name was John Allen, one of Glen's best friends who was
flying in from Texas.  I can remember standing under this
umbrella in the pouring rain with John, all the while there are
people everywhere and an airplane engine dying down, and it
felt like we were the only things out there.  My heart ached for
him and by hearing Glen's story and seeing all of those
wonderful pictures, I felt like I knew Glen.  I said goodbye and
good luck to John and let him know I would be thinking of him
and the wife and family.  I drove home crying and thanking
God out loud for the people who love our country so much that
they will risk everything to take care of it.

I was also working the day John came back to the airport to fly
home.  He came to check in at the ticket counter and right
away I knew it was him.  I asked how things went and he told
me all about all of the wonderful people that showed support
but he was scared to go home because it would hit hard once
alone.  Again, we both got tears in our eyes and kind of stood
there in silence.  He turned and said, "That is his family behind
me."  My heart broke.  I want you to know that to this day, I
regret not coming over to shake your hands and give my
condolences.  I watched you all walk away and I had to go in
the back and just cry.  Again, I cried all the way home.  I told
my family Glen's story and added your family to my prayer list.
I think about you all the time.  I have heard that song by Tim
McGraw over and over the last two days for some reason that
goes "If you're reading this, I'm already home".  I think of Glen.
That's what inspired me to write this.  I googled him and found
this website, printed the memorial page off, and pinned it to my
wall at work.  He is an inspiration to me.

I wanted to you to know that your son, husband, brother,
uncle, friend has touched someone he doesn't even know.  My
prayers are with all of you.  I also wonder how John is.  If you
talk to him, please send him my prayers as well.  Take care.
