Alfredo R. Chavez, 72,
passed away peacefully in his home on
Christmas morning 2007. He was surrounded
by his loving family after having a beautiful
Christmas Eve together.
Alfredo was born on August 15th, 1935 in San
Luis, Colorado to Alfredo Chavez and Maria
Vigil Chavez.
He attended Mercy High School in San Luis
and was the Valedictorian of his graduating
class in 1954.
After serving in both the Army and Air Force,
Alfredo, his wife Maria and four children
returned to the San Luis Valley settling in San
Francisco. Besides being a wonderful
husband and father (and part-time farmer),
Alfredo was a teacher at Centennial High
School in San Luis for many years, served
two terms as the Costilla County Treasurer
and later worked in the private sector and
county government. Alfredo was very well
known in the community and was loved as
respected by all.
He is survived by his wife Maria; two
daughters, Teresa Dambacher (Phillip);
Yvonne Esmailian (Fardad); two sons, Paul
(Sandra); Anthony (Amber); seven grandsons
and, finally, one granddaughter.
Alfredo was preceded in death by his parents,
brothers Johnny, Adolfo and Alfredo Gilberto;
sisters Mary Martin, Victoriana Chavez, Marin
Anna Chavez and Mary Helen Trujillo.
Thank you God for blessing us with such a
kind, gentle and loving husband and father.
The family would also like to thank friends and
family for all of their prayers and support.
Arrangements were made with Weylen’s
Funeral Home of San Pablo. www.weylens-
